How to Check Your Business Credit

Checking business credit starts with identifying which commercial reporting sources have information about your business and understanding that different providers can show different data and scores.

1. Identify the reporting source

Major commercial credit reporting organizations include Dun & Bradstreet, Experian, and Equifax. Availability, access methods, and report contents vary.

2. Review identifying information

Confirm the business name, address, industry, and other identifying details where shown. Record factual discrepancies for follow-up through the relevant reporting organization.

3. Review accounts and payment information

Look for accounts you recognize, payment experiences, and other reported information. Do not assume every business account will appear.

4. Put scores in context

Business credit scores are not universal. Always identify the bureau, model, and scale before interpreting a number.

5. Decide whether monitoring is useful

If you want ongoing visibility rather than occasional manual checks, compare monitoring options and the bureaus/data they cover.
