CAPITAL GROUNDWORK
Business Credit vs. Personal Credit
Business credit and personal credit are separate concepts, but “separate” does not mean owner credit can never matter to business financing.
Different reporting systems
Consumer credit is associated with individuals. Commercial credit is associated with businesses. The bureaus, data, scores, and reporting practices can differ.
Business structure is not the same as credit reporting
Forming an LLC or corporation can have legal and tax implications, but it does not automatically create a business credit score or prevent a financing agreement from involving a personal guarantee.
When personal credit can matter
Some financing providers may consider the owner’s personal credit, particularly depending on the product, business history, and underwriting process.
What to do next
Build legitimate business credit while also understanding the broader funding-readiness picture.
